Off-site program: Edgar Arceneaux & Frank Lawson: Place Is the Space

Time Sat 8/29 • 1PM PDT

Hammer Museum, 10899 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90024

Place Is the Space is a four-hour immersive performance experience combining live jazz improvisation, theatrical storytelling and multimedia design inspired by Sun Ra’s philosophy and his film Space Is the Place. The work functions as both a concert and an experiential ritual where musicians, performers, visual elements and audience members collectively shape the space into a place. Metaphorically building the vehicle that Sun Ra aspired towards, expressing Afrofuturistic themes of transcendence, liberation and joy. This cosmic jam session culminates in the audience crowning a ""New Sun Ra,"" who leads the full audience on a pilgrimage to the Hammer Museum for one final performance, where everyone is invited to play along. Presented in conjunction with the Hammer Museum’s current exhibition SPACE IS THE PLACE, which frames “space” as a conceptual framework inspired by the works and views of experimental jazz artist Sun Ra. Bruin Professionals Century City Chapter Meeting

Time Tue 9/8 • 8AM PDT

Century Towers • Century City CA

@ Join BP Century City Chapter for their monthly meeting! Meet our speaker: Wayne Nitti is a diehard Bruin. Following in the footsteps of his four older siblings, Wayne graduated summa cum laude with a degree in Economics-Business from UCLA in 1991. During his time as a Bruin, Wayne was also a two-sport Varsity athlete in track and cross-country. He continued his studies at Harvard Law School, graduating with honors in 1994 and returning to Los Angeles to start his legal career as a litigation associate at Latham & Watkins. In 2000, Wayne left the full-time practice of law to begin his MBA studies at the Wharton School, graduating with distinction in the areas of Finance and Entrepreneurial Management. Determined to start his own venture, Wayne returned to Southern California in 2002 and began researching businesses across various industries. Believing there was a significant opportunity in litigation software, Wayne hired a developer and created Case Anywhere, an online platform connecting judges, lawyers, and professional staff in complex litigation matters. The self-financed Company later expanded into arbitrations and administrative matters and became recognized as a technology leader in the dispute resolution space. The platform has hosted many of the largest cases in the State of California, including the Woolsey Fire cases, the Social Addiction cases, and the sexual abuse cases against the clergy, among thousands of other matters. In November 2024, after a competitive bidding process, Wayne sold the business to a strategic acquirer and continued to run the Company as its CEO for another year. He currently serves as a consultant to Case Anywhere as he evaluates other opportunities. Wayne is married to Lisa, a former partner at Greenberg Traurig who has her own entertainment law practice, and has two teenage children, Emily and Blake. He drags all of them to the Rose Bowl and Pauley Pavilion as season ticket holders. Add to calendar * Google Calendar * iCalendar * Outlook 365 * Outlook Live
