National Pan-Hellenic Council Informationals

The fraternities and sororities that make up the "Divine Nine" of the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) conduct membership intake at a time of a chapter's choosing. Chapters will typically host informational sessions during the fall quarter and then invite interested students to join during the winter or spring quarters. Most chapters also require a university GPA to join. Individual chapters have their own processes for membership intake so please contact the chapter(s) you may be interested in joining directly for additional information. NPHC will be hosting a "Meet the Greeks" event during week 2 in fall.

UCLA Open Source Meetup

Are you experienced with open-source software, working on an open-source project, or just curious about how open-source fits into research, teaching, libraries, and campus technology? In partnership with the UC Open Source Program Office (OSPO) Network, the UCLA OSPO is hosting a casual meetup for the UCLA open source community. This lunch-hour gathering will provide space for experienced and aspiring open-source contributors to meet one another, share projects and questions and learn more about open-source activity across UCLA and the UC system. This event is open to students, faculty, staff, researchers, librarians, technologists and anyone interested in open source software, open science, research software, community stewardship or contributor pathways. Applying for the NIH Training Fellowship

This workshop will cover the application process and required components of an NIH NRSA application. We will discuss preparation, documents required, and writing strategies for the F31, but the F30 and F32 are very similar. We will also address how to find appropriate materials/resources for a complete application.

Accessibility in Action Workshop: Use Built-In Tools to Help Make Your Course Content Accessible

This interactive workshop provides the opportunity for Instructors and TAs to share their current Bruin Learn accessibility remediation tasks and learn how to use the UCLA-provided tools at their disposal to help remediate course content. We will review key features that support accessibility compliance and improve the usability of course content. By the end of the session, participants will have learned how to use the current accessibility tools in the Bruin Learn ecosystem to remediate issues relevant to their courses. Accessibility Workshop 1 - What is Digital Accessibility?

This workshop is only open to instructors. This workshop will explore digital accessibility and its essential role in creating equitable learning experiences. Participants will be introduced to the key U.S. laws, standards, and accessibility principles that shape responsibilities in educational settings. The workshop will help participants move beyond considering accessibility as a checklist or legal obligation and begin thinking about it as a foundation for thoughtful, inclusive design.

Writing Strategies for International Students

This workshop covers specifics of English communication in academic and professional settings with an emphasis on resources and self-editing skills for second language writers. We will discuss expectations for citation in the U.S. and ways to avoid plagiarism. We will address email etiquette in academic and professional communication. We will also discuss strategies and resources for improving English grammar, word choice, and style.

Coltrane at 100: Symposium

On the 100th anniversary of John Coltrane’s birth year, The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music’s global jazz studies program will celebrate this giant of the saxophone, this jazz innovator and spiritual/artistic icon of the Black Arts Movement, this patron saint of avant garde. This symposium will honor Coltrane in words. The keynote address will be delivered by Archbishop Franzo King, co-founder of the African Orthodox Church of John Coltrane. The keynote address in addition to remarks by the archbishop will feature music from members of the church.
